In this series, I attempt to define and then examine some key themes in the modern debate over religious belief in light of what has been called “The New Atheism.” I believe there is an inherent tension set up in the way that some religious systems seek to bring faith and reason together. While the contemporary culture war caricatures the tension as being between faith and reason, I believe the struggle originates in an unclear hybrid of existentialist faith that grounds religious belief for many and a subsequent rationalizing of that faith. This is largely misunderstood, I believe, by many popular atheistic writers which contributes to the problem.
