In her book Hacía una crítica ética de la historia de la filosofía en México desde la perspectiva de género, or Toward a Critical Ethics of Philosophy in Mexico from the Perspective of Gender (my translation from the original Spanish), Fanny del Río does far more than take note of the absence of philosophical writings authored by women in major works and anthologies of Mexican philosophy. She also doesn’t waste much time exploring why this has happened—the operative sexist norms are, after all, obvious enough. Instead, in this clear, engaging, concise, and thoroughly down-to-business book, Del Río explores whether, and to what extent, we can hold particular (and often named) philosophers accountable for these systematic exclusions.
