John Wyclif (c. 1331 – 84) was one of the most important and authoritative thinkers of the later Middle Ages. He was active in the very crucial period of late Scholasticism, when new ideas and doctrines began to accelerate the transition to modern ways of thinking. On the one hand, he was a precursor of the Reformation by leading a movement of opposition to the medieval Church and some of its dogmas and institutions; on the other, he was the most prominent English philosopher of the second half of the 14th century….
