The lore that philosophers are unemployable may have less to do with their employability and more about the workplace.

“It was a running joke in my graduate program that the only thing you can do with a philosophy degree (outside of academia) is work in the restaurant industry—washing dishes. I’ve found that the challenge philosophy majors have in finding meaningful employment has much less to do with them being unemployable and more about them having developed an incurable allergy to the inauthenticity of many places of employment.”
